- The sheet is in stock, but nobody knows where. So it gets ordered again — and a fortnight later both turn up.
- An order is stuck because the material ran out. You found out the moment somebody went to fetch it.
- A customer asks which batch a part came from. The answer is in a notebook belonging to the colleague who is on holiday.

Stock is not one number next to a material. It is a place you can point at.
Places named the way you name them
A rack, a pallet, a crate by the machine. You create the places you actually call them, and material sits on those rather than in an abstract warehouse.

A stock count that adds up
Every receipt, issue and transfer is recorded with a time and the person who did it. When the numbers stop matching, you can see where and since when.
